According to the Italian Ministry of Health, a Medical Device is defined as a useful tool that supports individuals in the prevention and treatment of certain health conditions.
This classification is regulated by EU Regulation 2017/745, which governs the safety, performance, and labelling of medical devices across the European Union.
Under Italian tax law (TUIR – Article 15, Paragraph 1, Section C), individuals who meet specific medical criteria and possess appropriate documentation may deduct the purchase of certified Class 1 Medical Devices registered with the Ministry of Health as part of their medical expense declarations in accordance with legal provisions.
Products certified as Class 1 Medical Devices must bear the CE marking, which is mandatory for all goods manufactured and sold within the European Union. This ensures compliance with community directives regarding product safety and consumer protection.
